Visit this Holy Place!

Have you ever had a thought that all your wishes should be fulfilled? I know many will be in this category. For your kind information, there is a place in Ajmer named “Ajmer Sharif Dargah”; most of the people believe that one who prays with a pure heart in this dargah then his or her wishes will be fulfilled. It is one of the important pilgrimage centers in India where there will not be any religious discrimination. Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, the Sufi saint from Persia who is famous for his secular teachings lived here from 1192 to 1236 AD. He enshrined here and thus it is considered as the holy place because there is a belief among the people that Moinuddin Chishti was insisted by Muhammad in his dream to visit India. So, he reached Ajmer through Lahore and stayed there till his death in the year 1236 AD.
This dargah was built by Mughal King Humayun to honor Moinuddin Chishti. Later, the Mughal Emperors Humayun, Akbar, Shah Jahan and Jahangir built several mosques inside this dargah during their periods. The main gate is called Nizam Gate which was constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and hence it is called as Shahjahani Gate. Once you step into this dargah, you will come across several silver doors which will take you to the courtyard where you can see the saint’s tomb that is carved out of marble. This tomb has gold plating on its top and is protected by a silver railing and a marble screen.
In this dargah, there are two deghs (commonly called as pots) that are used for cooking in ancient times. The biggest pot holds 31.8 kilograms of rice and the smallest pot holds 12.7 kilograms of rice. The circumference of these deghs is about 10 feet. These pots were donated by the Mughal Emperors Akbar (the bigger pot) and Jahangir (the smaller one). The Emperors Akbar and Shah Jahan made a clear note that one should visit this dargah at least once a year. Nearly 150000 people will visit this sacred place every year. Urs festival is the important festival that will be celebrated here with great pleasure. During Urs festival, Jannati Darwaza (Gateway to Heaven) which is the main gate of this dargah will be opened for the devotees.
