Pazhani Murugan temple is

Siva temple built by Pallavas during 685AD. This is the oldest existing
structure in Kanchipuram. It is also said that Raja Raja Cholan 1 was inspired
by this temple to build Brihadeeswarar temple. There is a circumambulatory
passage, with a symbolic meaning is situated along the compound wall. The
passage consists of a narrow entry through which devotees enter. Devotees must
crawl to pass through the passage. Then there are seven steps to be climbed to
reach the passage. Passage symbolises our passage of life. The passage exit
denotes the death. The temple is very unique in its way.
