Gol Gumbaz

Gol Gumbaz is the mausoleum of king Mohammed Adil Shah, Sultan of Bijapur. Construction of the tomb was started in 1626 and WAS completed in 1656. The name is derived from its structure "Gol Gombaz" which means "circular dome". It has the style of Deccan architecture. The structure is composed of a cube on each side. It has eight intersecting arches created by two rotated squares that create interlocking pendentives support the dome. It has a dome-capped octagonal tower seven stories high with a staircase inside.
