How India Celebrates Holi?

“The things that make memorable are the things that are vibrant and colorful”, says Joshua Foer.
Very True! As vivid tinge of blue shade covers the sky, the entire nation is busy ushering all the others for the magnificent Holi festival. While your family is busy with the Holika Bonfire, it is the apt time for one to chase and spray colored water and dry powder on all. Though sounding exciting, it does involve a lot of planning . Such a unique festival is Holi whose likings can be seen throughout India by its name called as Rangpanchami in Maharashtra to Lathimaar Holi in Mathura. Holi, though boisterous yet marks the colorful commemoration of many legendary tales associated with it coz India, being a diversified country has many traditions and the celebration of Holi varies with each.
There are several places in our nation where this festival is celebrated as an ideal blend of tradition and belief and we bring you the top three places in India where one can witness true charm of its existence.
1. Barsana- Lathmar Holi
The Barsana village located near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh celebrates Holi in a grand way where it is the day of the Women. There is an event with the name Lathmar Holi that is usually celebrated one day before the festival where women can be seen hitting men with bamboo sticks when they try to drench the women in colored water. The enjoyment or fun that you would encounter in watching it is truly astounding.
2. Mathura and Vrindavan
Be it Mathura or Vrindavan, the former where Lord Krishna was born and the latter where he was raised both have a remarkable significance in the celebration of Holi. The people here start celebrating this festival on Vasant Panchami that is approximately 40 days prior to the start of Holi. It is believed that this festival was started by Lord Krishna and every temple dedicated to this Hindu deity celebrates in on different days.
3. Delhi- Musical Holi
Holi in Delhi is said to be an unruly affair with Bhaang, Lassi, street food and sprinklers on every lane of the city. The environment is safe and you will see plenty of expatriates and locals around here enjoying this festival. If possible, get passes for the Holi Moo festival (called Holy Cow Festival) here where you would get to encounter over 40 Indian and International performers performing over 4 stages.
